Journey Through the Ancient Karst Kingdom of Rammang-Rammang & Leang-Leang

Escape the city and discover the hidden beauty of South Sulawesi through a journey into the ancient limestone world of Rammang-Rammang Karst Village and the prehistoric wonders of Leang-Leang Prehistoric Park.

Day 1

Rammang Rammang Karst & Leang Leang Pre-Historic Park

Your adventure begins in the morning as we leave Makassar and travel toward the breathtaking karst landscape of Maros Regency — home to one of the largest karst areas on Earth. Along the way, witness the changing scenery from urban life to peaceful countryside and towering limestone mountains rising dramatically from the green rice fields. Upon arrival at Rammang-Rammang, step aboard a traditional wooden boat and cruise slowly along the calm Pute River. The atmosphere is peaceful and timeless. Massive limestone cliffs stand proudly on both sides of the river while local fishermen paddle quietly through the water. Palm trees sway gently in the breeze, creating a magical tropical landscape that feels untouched by time. Continue deeper into the karst valley to reach the charming Berua Village, a hidden rural settlement surrounded entirely by stone mountains. Here, life moves slowly. Meet local villagers, walk through traditional pathways, and enjoy the authentic atmosphere of Bugis countryside life. After lunch with local flavors from South Sulawesi, the journey continues to Leang-Leang Prehistoric Park — a place where history speaks through ancient cave walls. Short trekking through the limestone hills leads you to prehistoric caves containing some of the oldest human handprints and rock paintings ever discovered in the world, estimated to be more than 40,000 years old. Standing before these ancient artworks is a powerful experience, connecting visitors with the earliest stories of human civilization in Sulawesi. Surrounded by jungle, limestone cliffs, and silence, Leang-Leang offers not only history, but also a deep sense of wonder. In the afternoon, return comfortably to Makassar with unforgettable memories of South Sulawesi’s natural beauty, ancient culture, and prehistoric heritage.
