FAQ

Common Questions

Can I join the Toraja & Bada Valley journey as a solo traveller?

Absolutely. Solo travellers are welcome to join Pacébo's scheduled small group departures. Travelling with a small international group is an opportunity to share cultural discoveries and conversations with like-minded travellers without needing to arrange a private journey. Published prices are based on double occupancy, so a single supplement may apply if you prefer a room for individual use. Room-sharing opportunities depend on the other participants and cannot be guaranteed. Please discuss your preferences with Pacébo before confirming your reservation so that the available arrangements and any additional charges are clear.

Will I have a private room throughout the journey, including the night in Bada Valley?

Accommodation arrangements vary between destinations. In established hotels, room occupancy can generally be arranged according to confirmed booking preferences, subject to availability and any applicable single supplement. The homestay in Bada Valley offers a more intimate experience of local life, but facilities, sleeping arrangements and personal privacy may be more limited than in a conventional hotel. Travellers should not assume that a private bedroom or bathroom will be available for this particular night. Pacébo recommends discussing accommodation expectations before booking, especially if individual sleeping arrangements are important to your comfort.

What happens if my selected departure does not reach the minimum number of guests?

This journey requires at least four confirmed participants for a guaranteed departure. If your preferred departure has not yet reached that number, Pacébo will explain its status and advise you of the available options. Depending on availability and operational circumstances, these may include joining another scheduled departure or considering an alternative travel arrangement. Any changes, cancellations or applicable refunds will follow the booking terms confirmed for your reservation. We strongly recommend checking whether your departure is guaranteed before purchasing non-refundable flights or making other fixed travel commitments.

Who will I be travelling with, and what language will be used during the journey?

Participants may come from different countries and backgrounds, brought together by a shared interest in Sulawesi's cultural heritage, landscapes and archaeological sites. The small group format encourages conversation, shared experiences and a friendly atmosphere without requiring guests to know one another beforehand. English is the guiding language specified for this departure, helping participants follow the explanations and activities together. If you require guiding in French, German, Italian or another language, please contact Pacébo before booking to discuss possible arrangements. Additional language services should not be assumed unless specifically confirmed.

What if I am unable to complete a walk or prefer to skip a particular activity?

The journey includes walks through villages, rural landscapes and natural areas, some of which may have uneven, wet or slippery surfaces. The guide will consider local conditions and the group's overall ability when managing activities. If you would prefer to skip a particular walk, please inform the guide as early as possible so that a safe and practical option can be considered. However, separate transportation, individual guiding or an alternative excursion cannot always be provided within a shared group itinerary. Guests with mobility concerns should discuss their needs with Pacébo before booking.

Can the group make additional stops or change the programme for individual interests?

A small group journey offers a personal atmosphere, but its itinerary remains shared by all participants. Short photography stops, rest breaks or minor adjustments may be possible when time, road conditions and the group's agreement allow. However, changes that significantly affect the day's schedule, transport arrangements or the experience of other guests cannot be guaranteed. The guide will balance opportunities for spontaneous discoveries with the practical requirements of travelling through remote areas. Weather, road access and safety considerations may also require adjustments, which will be managed in the interests of the entire group.

How should I plan my arrival in Makassar, and what happens if my flight is delayed?

We recommend arriving in Makassar at least one day before the scheduled start, particularly if you are travelling internationally or connecting through several airports. The first day begins with a group meeting followed by an overland journey, so arriving on the same morning may leave little room for delays. Please confirm the meeting location, time and airport transfer arrangements with Pacébo before booking your flights. If your flight is delayed, inform our team immediately. The group may be unable to postpone departure, and any alternative transfer or accommodation arrangements would need to be assessed separately.

Can vegetarian meals, food allergies or other dietary requirements be accommodated within the group?

Pacébo will make reasonable efforts to accommodate dietary preferences and restrictions when informed sufficiently in advance. However, meals are arranged across several regions, including remote communities where ingredients, storage facilities and cooking options may be limited. Vegetarian alternatives can often be considered, but individual menus or completely separate food preparation may not always be possible. Guests with serious allergies, gluten-free requirements or strict dietary restrictions should provide detailed information before booking. Our team will assess what can be arranged safely and realistically, although completely allergen-free meals cannot be guaranteed.

Long Overland Drives

Several stages involve long drives across Sulawesi. Rest stops are planned approximately every three hours, depending on road and traffic conditions.

Walking Conditions

Forest and village paths may be uneven or wet. Walking routes are adapted to the weather, trail conditions and the group’s ability.

Bada Valley Road Conditions

The mountain drive to Bada Valley takes around three hours, but timing may vary with road and weather conditions.

Arrival and Departure Transfers

Transfers are coordinated with the group schedule. Guests should plan to arrive in Makassar before Day 1 and allow sufficient time for onward flights after the return to Makassar on Day 10.
